How to Play Bottle Bash

Getting Started

  1. Find a flat surface and place both poles at a distance of 20, 30, or 40 feet apart, depending on skill level and age.

  2. Place the bottles on top of the poles.

  3. Form two teams of two players each.

  4. Each team chooses a pole to defend, and both team members stand behind the same pole.

  5. Players must stay behind their designated pole while throwing and catching.

Objective

The goal is to knock your opponents’ bottle off their pole using the disc while the defending team tries to catch the disc and bottle before they hit the ground.

Scoring Points

Only the throwing team can score points. Points are awarded when objects hit the ground:

  • Dropped Disc = 1 Point

  • Dropped Bottle = 2 Points

  • Dropped Disc & Bottle = 3 Points

  • Maximum points per throw = 3

Additional Notes:

  • The defending team can save points by catching the disc and/or bottle before they hit the ground.

  • Games can be played to 11, 15, or 21 points, but teams must win by 2.

  • To score the winning points with a disc, the bottle must be knocked off the pole.

  • Golden Rule: The bottle is always live. Anytime the bottle falls for any reason, the throwing team is awarded 2 points.

Rules & Gameplay Tips

  1. Catchable Throws Only: Discs must be thrown in a way that is catchable by the opposing team based on their age and skill level. Avoid throws that are too far to the left, right, or too high.

  2. Low Disc Zone: The bottom of each pole marks the Low Disc Zone. If the disc lands below this line or hits the ground before reaching the pole, no points are awarded.

  3. Bottle Always Live: Even if the disc lands low, the bottle must still be caught by the defending team before it hits the ground.

  4. Pole Tending (Goal Tending) Rules: You cannot reach in front of the pole or bottle before the frisbee breaks the plane of the pole location. If you do, the throwing team is awarded 3 points.

  5. No Guarding: The disc cannot be stopped or interfered with before hitting the pole or bottle.

  6. If the Frisbee Hits the Ground First: If the frisbee hits the ground before reaching the pole, no points are awarded and play simply continues with the next throw.

Pro Tips for Fun

  • Bottle Bash can even be played in the water! For water play, remove foot spikes and make sure poles are secure. Low throws hitting the water count as disc attempts, making it more challenging and fun.

  • For saltwater play, rinse poles with fresh water afterward to prevent rust, and remove any sand to keep poles sliding smoothly.

  • Adjust pole height for youth players to ensure fair and safe gameplay.
